Fact-Checking the CBN’s Cybersecurity Levy: Separating Fact from Fiction

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has not reinstated the cybersecurity levy that was previously suspended. This suspension was enacted following a decision by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), and the CBN has since taken no action to bring the levy back.

In its Monetary, Credit, Foreign Trade, and Exchange Policy Guidelines for Fiscal Years 2024-2025, the information released on September 17 reflects the status of the policy prior to its suspension by the FEC.

Despite recent claims suggesting that the CBN has reintroduced the cybersecurity levy, these assertions are inaccurate and misleading.
