The Taraba State government today in a press statement which was made public by His Excellency Enrg. Haruna Manu Deputy Governor Taraba State said the use of face mask by citizens is now compulsory in public places round the state. Fellow Tarabans,
Further to the state-wide radio and television broadcast by His Excellency, Arc Darius Dickson Ishaku, the Executive Governor of Taraba State on Monday April 27, 2020, I wish to bring to you, details of additional measures taken by the government to check further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
2. Government has decided that, henceforth, the wearing of facemasks is compulsory in public places throughout the state. In furtherance of this directive, government has purchased facemasks and hand sanitizers for distribution to the public through religious bodies and reputable organizations in the state.
3. Individuals, public and private organizations with the wherewithal
are also encouraged to provide facemasks and sanitizers for themselves and for others not in a position to do so for themselves.
4. Government has also decided to extend the time allowed during the state-wide lockdown for people to buy essential commodities. From now and until further notice, people are free from 8am to 4pm on Wednesday and Saturday to visit nearby markets and shops to buy and stock essential commodities.
5. Government has, however, observed with dismay that several village markets are being operated in total disregard for the order closing all markets in the state. The caretaker chairmen for all local governments in the state are hereby directed to ensure that government directives on measures meant to contain the spread of the virus are obeyed in their domains. Already 2 local government chairmen have being discipline for not complying with government directives on market closures

6. His Excellency, Governor Ishaku is particularly grateful to the State Technical Committee on Covid 19 for its diligence and to the members
and Leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) the Muslim Council and Traditional rulers for their untiring efforts in sensitizing their members and encouraging them to support efforts at containing the spread of the disease.

7. Let me also thank you all for your cooperation and support in the fight against this pandemic. Our biggest weapon against this disease remains our ability to discipline ourselves to keep strictly to the habits of regular hand washing, use of sanitizers, social distancing and to stay at home.
