Extortion in Kogi East: Anyigba/Egume Road; Police,Military Mounts Temporary Toll Gates

by
The Police and the Military deployed to Anyigba community on securtiy surveillance have turned the road leading to Egume, the neighbouring village into temporary toll gates, OBSERVERS TIMES report.
This is as a result of mounting of multiple road blocks stretched from the last gate of the Kogi State University to the proposed Medical School and Teaching hospital up till the last junction adjoining Abadigba village .
The Police and the Military are regularly on the road all in the name of providing security, but busy extorting money from motorists, motorcycle and other earth moving equipment plying the road.
Some motorists and motobikes engaged in negotiations and controveries of either to pay or not to pay,as the uniform men insist that the payment from the road users is from above and cannot be discountenance.
All efforts to reach out to the Divisional Police officer(DPO),and the Commandant Miltiary heirachy deployed to the community was to no avail,as they are always out of station .
Our appeal is now directed to the new Police Commissioner and Commandant Army records to curb the excesses of their men,to forestall breakdown of law and order from motorists, motorbikes and other road users who are always in controversy with the Police and Military men .
