When those who are supposed to be fighting a patriotic course resort to embezzlement, and stealing of funds allocated to end the menace of drug trafficking and narcotic consumption, then the country and its citizenry would be at the receiving end of all narcotic associated crimes.
This seems to be the position in the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, under the leadership of Col. Mohammad Mustapha Abdallah (rtd). In a petition submitted to the anti-corruption agencies, which was exclusively obtained by LeadingReporters, it is alleged that Col. Abdallah (rtd) corners N600m from the monthly allocation of the agency.
According to the petition, signed by one Femi Johnson who is privy to the criminal activities of the Chairman and CEO of NDLEA, and submitted to the anti-corruption agencies, a whooping N22m is deducted monthly as money for foreign trips, which the petitioner described as “fruitless” and “non-existent”. When added to other deductions, the Chairman allegedly corners over N600m monthly from NDLEA.
The petition further alleges that from the time Col. Abdallah was appointed to February, 2016, the DG was only allocating a paltry sum of N130,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) to each command. This led to the officers being easily compromised.
In the same vein, the Chairman is said to deliberately dumped professionalism for nepotism and religiosity in appointment and promotions in the agency, especially within the Directorship cadre. Furthermore, the petition alleges that the Chairman is notoriously promoting young officers from his region and religion faster ahead of their superiors, thereby discouraging other officers that are from different regions and religions.
According to the reliable source the Assistant Director, Internal Audit, Mr Obaniyi Sylvester Adeoye who refused to consent to a deal where the Chairman brought in refurbished vehicles as new ones was immediately transferred to Yobe via a letter reference No. NDLEA/ALS/ADM/Vol iv/32 dated 18th July, 2017. The Chairman allegedly punished Mr. Obaniyi Adeoye for refusing to play along when he (the Chairman) brought in refurbished vehicles as brand new ones.
