Exclusive: Sen Tofowomo calls for Sowore’s release, asks FG to respect rule of law

The Ondo South senator represents Sowore’s local government – According to him, it is democratically a set back for Nigeria if the FG disobeys court orders Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, the senator representing Ondo South Senatorial district has called on the federal government to respect the pronouncement of the judiciary and release detained publisher of Sahara reporters, Omoyele Sowore. In an exclusive chat with Legit.ng, Tofowomo who is the senator representing Sowore’s local government joined his voice with that of other Nigerians in calling for the release of the detained activist. According to him, it is democratically a set back for Nigeria if the FG disobeys court orders. He further likens such disobedience as a trademark of the military.
“My take is very clear. A competent court has given an order that Omoyele Sowore should be released. If the federal government should disobey a court order, it is democratically a set back for Nigeria because it was only during the military era that judiciary does not have any value. “As much as we have the independence of the judiciary, FG should not undermine their independence. So, whatever decision taken by the court is binding on all organs of government in accordance with our law and such decision must be respected by the government and its agents,” the senator added.
