The president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has distanced himself from anything associated with Former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, who is accused of diverting N80 billion of state funds in September 2015, four months before he assumed office, the source in the Presidency revealed.
The EFCC has charged the former governor with financial fraud amounting to N80 billion.
Recall that the EFCC had arraigned Bello’s nephew, Ali Bello, before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, for alleged money laundering amounting to N10 billion belonging to the State government.
The state house source confirmed this to OBSERVERS TIMES amidst the ongoing controversy between the former governor and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), stating that the president doesn’t have time to involve himself in any allegations.
If the former governor of Kogi State has issues with the EFCC, he should present himself for interrogation and stop causing confusion.
Though there is no evidence of any formal invitation between the embattled former governor and the anti-corruption body, the state government, through the Commissioner of Information, has raised alarms about the EFCC’s alleged plot to amend charges involving the former governor.
THIS medium gathered that there is no formal communication from the EFCC on this matter, but several press statements have been released from pro-Bello groups alleging the EFCC of witch-hunt, though another pro-Northern group has urged the governor to be bold enough to clear his name.
The former governor is said to be trying his efforts to meet the president and possibly seek presidential cover-up, but undemocratic attempts are not yielding any results.
“One of the lawmakers from Kogi is trying to persuade the Chief of Staff to allow Mr. President to intervene, but the task is difficult because of what he had on social and media space recently.
“The attempt by the former governor to use his former ADC, who is also among the security officials of the president, is not yielding results,” the source said.
Meanwhile, Yahaya Bello is expected to give his account of his stewardship to the EFCC.
