Ex-SGF Anyim, Gov Umahi reconcile differences, backs APC guber candidate Nwifuru

The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Pius Anyim and Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State have reconciled their age-long difference a few days to the governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state and vowed to deliver the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Francis Nwifuru.

Also, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, House of Representatives, Mr Livinus Makwe, currently representing Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo Federal Constituency, and the deputy governorship candidate of Labour Party, LP, Aja Nwabueze, as well also declared support for the APC candidate.

Anyim, who is a member of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, made this known while speaking with newsmen during a town hall meeting organised by Governor Umahi and held at his hometown in Ishiagu community, Ivo LGA.

According to him: “I believe in zoning and rotation of the governorship. It is the turn of the Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone.

“And the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ebonyi State is the right person.”

Responding, Gov Umahi, tasked the people of Ishiagu community to support the APC guber candidate, Nwifuru, for the sake of equity, fairness and unity of Ebonyi State.

He commended Ayim, a former Senate President, for declaring support for the APC guber candidate and vowed to bring greater development for the community, if APC wins in the forthcoming governorship and House of Assembly elections on March 18, 2023.

In a swift reaction, the Deputy Director of the PDP campaign council, on Media and publicity, Mr Moses Idike described the support of Anyim for APC guber candidate Nwifuru as unwarranted and uncalled for, stressing that such support overrides that of public interest.

Idike said: “The struggle for the liberation of Ebonyi people is beyond the mantra of equity as being mouthed by Anyim; it’s obvious that he has traded the trust of the people for his personal gains.

“Remember, when his candidate Obinna Ogba lost and he also lost his presidential bid, he became broke. So this move is not genuine, it’s a fight for survival. Anyim has never been a sincere person.

“In PDP, we are not losing sleep over Anyim’s defection to APC; he cannot even win Ivo LGA.”
