Ex-Oyo Speaker Rejects Appointment as Senior Legislative Aide to Reps Speaker

A former Speaker of the Oyo state House of Assembly, Asimiyu Alarape, has rejected an appointment to be Senior Legislative Assistant to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

A letter of appointment, dated October 11, 2023 had been sent to Alarape .

The appointment had generated reactions from many people who demanded to know how desperate a former speaker could be to accept such an appointment. However, in a reaction on Sunday, Alarape, via a letter addressed to Abbass, said he was turning down the offer.

“May I respectfully convey with my constraints my declination of the appointment in line with paragraph 4 of the letter which I have not received but has enjoy (sic) generous circulation on social media without my consent or prompting,” Alarape said in his letter to the House of Representatives Speaker.

While thanking Abbass and a member of the House Akeem Adeyemi for the role he played in making the appointment possible, Alarape said he is still expecting a “reward for my steadfastness and unalloyed support for my great party, All Progressive Congress (APC) not only as a candidate during the 2023 general elections and particularly as a committed party member.”
