In preparation for the gubernatorial elections scheduled for November 11th in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo States, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, has announced robust security arrangements. These measures were revealed during a recent media briefing held in Abuja, where key police officials discussed the Nigeria Police Force’s achievements and strategies over the past five weeks.
Mr. Egbetokun emphasized the importance of ensuring a free and fair election process in the three states and assured citizens of the police’s commitment to this goal. He highlighted that the limited scope of these elections allowed for a significant deployment of police personnel, surpassing the numbers seen during general elections.
“We have no doubts about the safety and security of the November elections in these three states. Our preparations are comprehensive, and deployment will commence soon,” Egbetokun stated confidently.
Furthermore, the police will conduct their annual retreat in one of the states where the election will occur, just two weeks before the polling day. This deliberate choice aims to demonstrate the police’s readiness and commitment to securing the elections, reassuring the public of their safety.
Despite recent challenges, including the removal of fuel subsidies and post-election tribunal judgments across the country, Nigeria has experienced relative internal security stability over the past month. The police are determined to maintain this peace and ensure smooth gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo States.
