Emir of Ilorin speaks on Prof. Gambari’s appointment as President Buhari’s new Chief of Staff

The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Mai-Martaba Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, on Tuesday afternoon lent credence to reports on the appointment of one of his chiefs, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, as the new Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Tough the appointment is yet to be formally announced, the Ilorin Monarch in a statement signed by his Media Aide, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, described the appointment as great honour to the entire people of Ilorin Emirate and Kwarans at large.

Alhaji Sulu-Gambari expressed confidence that Prof. Gambari, a distinguished scholar and international diplomat, would add enormous value to the Buhari administration.

“He will surely bring to fore his wealth of experience as an academician, former Minister, former Diplomat, former University Chancellor, Prince of the renown Alimi dynasty, family man and community leader of high repute,” the royal father said.

He congratulated Prof Gambari on the new appointment, wishing him a successful tenure in office.

Prof. Gambari, who was Buhari’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and confidant as military Head of State in the 1980s, met with the President at about 8am today at the State House, Abuja.

With his appointment, Professor Gambari replaces Mallam Abba Kyari, who died last month of COVID-19.
