Elumelu Urges Wike to Let Fubara Govern Rivers State.

Businessman and politician, Peter Elumelu, has called on former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to allow incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara to govern the state without interference. Elumelu made this statement on the “The Naija We Need” podcast, where he discussed various national issues.

Regarding the political rivalry between Wike and Fubara, Elumelu said, “The problem between Wike and Fubara is natural. If I had my way, I would advise Wike to let Fubara have his time. Wike has had his time as governor; nobody disturbed him, so he should let Fubara have his time and work.”

Elumelu emphasized that Wike should focus on his duties as Minister of FCT and avoid getting involved in Rivers State politics. He noted that the struggle for supremacy is unnecessary and that Wike has done well for the people of Rivers State.

On the current hardship in Nigeria, Elumelu commended President Bola Tinubu for his efforts but advised him to ensure his team acts with a “human face.” He lamented the impunity of some government officials and the rampant racketeering and pilfering in the petroleum industry.

To address these issues, Elumelu suggested correcting lapses in foreign exchange and realigning the policies of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). He also called for increased security and effective policing to tackle crime and insurgency, which he described as “jungle-like.”

Additionally, Elumelu supported the review of judicial officers’ emoluments to reflect their status.

As a seasoned businessman with over three decades of experience, Peter Elumelu has held various positions, including Chairman of the Board of Directors of Delta State Urban Water Board, Asaba, and Non-Executive Director on the board of Transcorp Hotels Plc. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors (IoD) Nigeria and has contested for the Federal House of Representatives.
