The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Idowu Owohunwa, has revealed that an investigation has been launched into the alleged threat against Igbo people by the Chairman of the Lagos State Parks Management Committee, Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo.

Owohunwa made this known during an interview with TV Arise News on Friday, in anticipation of the gubernatorial and state assembly elections scheduled for Saturday.
MC Oluomo was captured in a viral video warning that Igbo people in Lagos should not bother to come out to vote if they will not vote for the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said, “Please tell them, we have begged them. If they don’t vote for us, it is not a fight. Tell them that Chukwudi’s mother, if you don’t vote for us, sit down at home. Do you understand? Sit down at home.”

Reacting to the threat, Lagos CP, Owohunwa, strongly condemned any act, statement or action that could be interpreted as hate speech or could deepen political tension in the state.
He added that the police are investigating the video and warned those brewing violence in the state to desist or face the full wrath of the law.
“We are deploying our cyber security access to solve that. And, I can assure you that nobody is above the law. Anybody that tries to use his position, or his influence on others to deepen hate, or engender political tension which could snowball into violence, it remains the responsibility and the mandate of the Nigeria Police to investigate such cases.”
Owohunwa emphasized that the full law will take its course if anyone is found guilty of such ill-informed and indirect actions. Nigerians will go to the polls tomorrow for the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections, which mark the second leg of the 2023 elections.
