Election Murder: Group alleges plot to free embattled House Leader Doguwa

The Concerned Citizens of Doguwa/Tudunwada Community has alleged that the Speaker of the House of Representatives and Kano State government are planning to set free, the embattled House Majority Leader of the House, Alhassan Doguwa.

Recall that Mr Doguwa was arraigned on Wednesday and remanded at Goron Dutse Correctional Centre by Senior Magistrate Ibrahim Mansur for culpable homicide, conspiracy, mischief, unlawful possession of fire arms and inciting disturbance.

The majority leader was initially arrested by the Police at Mallam Aminu Kano Airport on Tuesday before he was charged to court.

The police command, in a statement on Wednesday by its spokesman, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the arrest was made following complaints it received on the gruesome murder of three persons, causing grievous injury to eight others in Tudun Wada Local Government area on February 26 while the collation of election results was ongoing.

The statement added that an alleged viral video of some victims with suspected gunshots in the Social Media, the Commissioner of Police in charge of 2023 General Election, Kano State Command, CP Muhammad Yakubu directed the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID) Kano State Police Command to carry out a thorough investigation.

“In continuation of the investigation, on 27th February 2023, the Department extended a formal invitation to Honorable Alhassan Doguwa, a member-elect in Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency for his alleged complicity in the incident.

“Sequel to his refusal to honour the invitation, the Command was left with no other option than to activate a motion that would lead to his arrest. He was subsequently arrested by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Bompai Kano at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano,” the statement noted.

But in a press conference on Thursday, the group leader, Nura Dankadai, lamented that plotting to release Mr Doguwa is tantamount to subversion of justice, “lack of empathy and compassion for the victims’ families of Tudun Wada and Doguwa Local Governments”.

“It is important to note that the people of Tudun Wada and Doguwa Local Government have every reasonable grounds to believe that the leadership of the National Assembly is currently collaborating with the Kano State Government to tinker with ongoing of the judicial processes by exerting pressure and undue influence on the judiciary to grant bail to Alhassan Ado Doguwa & Co.

“As esteemed gentlemen of the press, we’re concern that releasing the accused persons the National Assembly and Kano State Government are trying to do is tantamount to subversion of justice and lack of empathy and compassion for the victim families of Tudun Wada and Doguwa Local Governments.

“Further more, with the approaching of the Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly Elections on March 11th, 2023. This nefarious act if allowed to prevail, will constitute immense threat to peaceful conduct of the forthcoming election.

“Finally, we are appealing to the Presidency, National Security Adviser, Inspector General of Police, Director State Security Services, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and all National and International Stakeholders to come to the rescue of the ever peace loving people of Tudun Wada and Doguwa Local Governments of Kano State,” Mr Dankadai appealed.
