El-Zakzaky: DSS soft pedals, promises to comply with Court order

The State Security Service (SSS) has said it would comply with a court order granting leave to leader of Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, to travel out for medical attention.
In a statement Monday evening the service spokesman, Peter Afunnaya, said it is in line with the service principles to comply with the order.

“This is to inform the public that the Department of State Services (DSS) has received the order granting Ibrahim EL-ZAKZAKY leave to travel to India for medical treatment.
“Consequently, the Service is liaising with relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance.
“Conformity with the order is in line with the Service’s avowed commitment to the Rule of Law inherent in a democracy,” the statement said.
Earlier on Monday, the Shi’ite leader was granted leave alongside his wife, Zeenat, by a Kaduna State High Court to seek medical attention abroad.

In his ruling, Justice Darius Khobo ordered that the IMN leader be accompanied abroad by officials of the Kaduna state government.
