The EFCC has requested the government to prohibit foreign missions in Nigeria from accepting payment for visa and other consular services in foreign currencies.
The embassies have been encouraged to align their currency exchange rates for service costs with Nigeria’s regulatory standards.
The EFCC provided guidance in a letter addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, with the intention of distributing it to all foreign embassies within the nation.
The EFCC stated in the letter that they issued the advisory due to the inconsistency of paying for consular services in dollars with the existing laws and financial regulations in Nigeria, as outlined in Section 20(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.
