The National Examination Council (NECO) has proudly announced the accreditation of additional foreign schools in Niger Republic and Equatorial Guinea. This initiative underscores NECO’s commitment to providing quality examination services and expanding educational opportunities for students beyond Nigeria’s borders.
In a statement released by Azeez Sanni, NECO’s acting Director of Public Relations, the council emphasized its determination to broaden its horizons and solidify its status as Africa’s leading examination body. This latest accreditation follows last year’s successful integration of several centers in Niger Republic, aimed at enabling Nigerian students residing in the Francophone nation to access the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
“The newly accredited schools, alongside existing centers, signify our commitment to inclusivity and educational excellence,” the statement read. “Our accreditation team conducted thorough assessments of the schools to ensure they meet NECO’s rigorous standards for examination readiness.”
During the accreditation process, NECO’s team meticulously inspected various facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, libraries, computer labs, workshops, examination halls, and sports facilities. This comprehensive evaluation ensured that the schools possess the necessary infrastructure and resources to provide a conducive environment for students to excel in their examinations.
After a rigorous assessment, the schools were granted full accreditation status for both the SSCE and BECE, enhancing the opportunities available to students in these regions. This expansion not only reflects NECO’s commitment to educational innovation but also its dedication to fostering a culture of academic excellence across Africa.
In a related development, candidates are currently participating in the ongoing NECO SSCE External examinations in Diffa, Niger Republic. Notably, the UNHCR School in Diffa has become the first NECO SSCE External Centre outside Nigeria, marking a historic milestone for the examination body.
NECO’s influence now extends to candidates in several countries, including Benin Republic, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger Republic, Equatorial Guinea, and even the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This remarkable growth is a testament to NECO’s innovative approach and its role as a leader in the educational sector.
According to the council, the UNHCR School, Diffa, Niger Republic, is the first NECO SSCE External Centre outside Nigeria.
NECO examinations are now written by candidates in Benin Republic, Togo, Cote d’Ivoire, Niger Republic, Equatorial Guinea and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia..
