Edo Politics: Political Permutations Set To Change As Jonathan Visits Gov. Obaseki lauds Obaseki’s devt strides

Former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, has applauded Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, for providing impactful and purposeful leadership in the state, urging him to continue in his uncommon developmental strides.

The former President gave the commendation on Sunday in Benin City, when he paid the governor a courtesy visit in his residence.

Addressing journalists during the visit, Jonathan described the visit as customary, noting, “Traditionally as someone who has been a President or a senior political office holder, when you go to a state, you have to pay a courtesy call on the Chief Executive; even if you are free or not, at least you must inform him.”

Meanwhile, the calculus and permutations in the buildup to the forth coming gubernatorial elections in Edo state might have taken an entirely new dimension following a state visit by former president and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, -Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to the embattled APC governor of Edo state.

The August visitor (GEJ) landed in Benin City of Edo state, Sunday afternoon and made way to the state house where the state governor, Godswill Obaseki and members of his executives received him.

The visit is said to be timely, especially for the opposition PDP’s advantage, following the current political rift between the national chairman of the ruling APC, Adams Oshiomole and the state governor. Indeed it is not well and there are signals across that Obaseki may be denied being the flag bearer of the APC in Edo state ahead of the fourth coming gubernatorial elections.

According to political pundits and commentators in the political space, “The PDP will wholeheartedly welcome the embattled governor to its side and hand him over the party structures if the ruling APC fails to let him fly the party’s ticket. And of course, he has high chances of getting reelected under the platform of the PDP”..
