The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has reportedly summoned Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North Senatorial District, following controversial remarks he made regarding Betsy Obaseki, the wife of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
Oshiomhole, in a recent interview, criticized Governor Obaseki and his wife, alleging that they do not have a child or love for children.
His comments were in response to an alleged statement by Betsy Obaseki, where she reportedly pointed out that only the APC gubernatorial candidate, Monday Okpebholo, does not have a wife among the contenders in the state.
In his rebuttal, Oshiomhole noted that the Obasekis have been childless since their marriage and have refused to adopt a child, insinuating a lack of affection for children.
These remarks have sparked widespread condemnation across Nigeria, particularly as the Edo State governorship election approaches.
Sources within Aso Rock disclosed that First Lady Oluremi Tinubu was deeply embarrassed and angered by Oshiomhole’s comments.
One insider noted that Mrs Tinubu, a known advocate for women’s rights and ethical conduct in politics, was “visibly enraged” upon hearing Oshiomhole’s remarks, describing them as “an affront to decency and to the values we should uphold in our political discourse.”
The First Lady, who does not condone the use of personal tragedies or circumstances as political tools, felt compelled to address the issue directly with Oshiomhole, according to the source.
