A campaign convoy linked to Senator Monday Okpebholo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the off cycle governorship election slated for next week Saturday in Edo State, has crushed five people to death.

The horrific incident occurred on Warrake Road, Owan East Local Government Area, on Thursday.

The convoy, this medium gathered, had a head-on collision with a Toyota Camry, instantly killing the driver, Emmanuel Edionwe, and four other passengers.

One other victim was critically injured and was immediately taken to Irrua Specialist Hospital.

Witnesses at the scene said that the convoy was speeding when one of its vehicles veered off and struck the oncoming Camry.

The victims were reportedly returning from a funeral ceremony when they met their untimely end.

The lifeless bodies have been deposited at the Edo State University Uzaurie Mortuary in Etsako West Local Government Area.

A heartbroken relative of Emmanuel Edionwe who doesn’t want to be quoted said, “We are heartbroken. Emmanuel was such a good, easy-going boy. Now we hear that five of them are gone, with just one fighting for their life in the hospital.”

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) was quick to evacuate the bodies from the accident site.
