A political coalition known as Obidients United For Equity, Justice, and Fairness has publicly denounced Peter Obi’s selection of Olumide Akpata as the Labour Party’s candidate, claiming it undermines the principles of internal democracy.
In a press releases l obtained by the OBSERVERS TIMES , group leader Blessing Edobor criticized Obi for allegedly favoring Akpata, who she claims is related to Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The statement emphasized the necessity of competency, commitment, and fairness in political leadership, asserting that Obi’s previous endorsements for inclusivity and balance appear to have been abandoned in this instance. The group expressed disappointment that Obi, who had previously advocated for justice and equity during his presidential campaign, now overlooks the same values in the context of Edo State.
Edobor pointed out that while Obi sought representation from diverse backgrounds in his campaign, he has failed to extend the same consideration to Edo Central, where they believe the next governor should emerge. The coalition has rallied behind Asue Ighodalo, whom they regard as the most qualified candidate, and urged supporters to vote for him and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, in the upcoming election on September 21, 2024.
