The Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-Cultural in the Diaspora (AEISCID) has warned the Minister of Works and Housing, David Umahi, to desist from threatening his successor, Governor Francis Nwifuru, with second-term ticket issues and allow him to govern the state effectively.
In a statement issued on Monday, AEISCID President Paschal Omaka expressed concern over Umahi’s recent media comments, where he claimed to have been avoided by those he aided to attain political positions in the state. The group believes this is a ploy to continue exerting control over the state’s affairs, despite being a federal minister.
AEISCID accused Umahi of still controlling and piloting the affairs of Ebonyi State, making it difficult for his successor to take firm decisions and govern the people effectively. The group cited the recent imposition of local government chairmen, where Umahi unilaterally forced the return of 10 out of 13 chairmen, against the will of his successor and majority stakeholders.
The group urged Governor Nwifuru to rise up and take firm charge of his government and the people who elected him, and warned Umahi to focus on his ministerial duties and allow the state to move forward. AEISCID expressed concern over the slow start of events and the inability of Nwifuru to showcase democracy dividends to the people of Ebonyi, which may be connected to Umahi’s influence.”
