Traditional rulers as non state actors are being regarded as custodians of culture and tradition of the nation. Traditional rulers are close to the people at the grassroots level, and traditionally accepted by their people based on the customs and the traditions of their respective domains, and also officially recognized by the government of their respective states. Traditional rulers have been and are in the forefront of efforts to prevent and mediate during conflict in their respective domains.

Traditional rulers through multiple peace building initiatives ensure peaceful coexistence among their subjects, due to their continuous direct contact with their subjects, which placed them in a vantage position in maintaining law and order, in their respective domains.
The contemporary role of traditional rulers is security and peace, at the same time local government use them for the attainment of peace and security in their areas as security and peace officers.

Akiliwo Ejeh Profile:
Dr. Sanusi Mohammed Ohiare was born on 6th of March 1985, in Abuja, but hails from Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State.
He obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from University of Jos, Plateau State, where he graduated with Second Class Honours, Upper Division
(2.1) in 2006. He later attended the renowned Centre for Energy, Petroleum, Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP), University of Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom(UK), and obtained a Master of Science Degree in Energy Studies, with specialization in Energy Finance in 2011.
He also has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree in Rural Energy Development from the prestigious Institute for Energy and Sustainable Development (IESD), De Montfort University, Leicester, UK in 2014 and is currently the only Nigerian with that specialization. Before his appointment, he worked with the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), as National Advisor on Rural Electrification under the Nigerian Energy Support programme (NESP), co-funded by the
European Union and German Government. In this capacity, he provided technical support to the Rural
Electrification Agency and Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission incharge of data management systems and planning for rural electrification support for the development of mini-grids pilot projects and coordinated the Northern States of the
programme.
He previously worked with the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc. (NBET); Sustainability, Policy and innovative Development Research (Spider) Solutions; Federal Capital Territory Administration, Abuja and other private companies in various capacities. He was part of the Presidential Committee that
reviewed the Rural Electrification cation Strategy and Implementation Plan (RESIP) document for Nigeria in 2013 and also part of the team that developed the draft
mini-grid regulations 2016.
He is a member of the International Association of Energy Economics (IAEE), Lagos Oil Club, Society for Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and Energy Institute United
Kingdom (UK).
