Don’t ever involve yourself in anything that’s purely a political matter, Femi Falana warns CBN

In reaction to the recent court order asking the central bank of Nigeria to unfreeze bank accounts of #Endsars protesters, human rights activist and foremost Nigerian legal practitioner, Femi Falana (SAN) has faulted CBN’s interference in the #Endsars movement following the freezing of some bank accounts of some major frontiers and supporters of the movement in the country.

Falana also recounted how a lawyer went to court, seeking for a prosecution of over 50 activists as at the time of the protest including his son, Folarin Falana popularly called Falz, but up until now, nobody has invited the persons on the list because he believes there is no basis or background for such an accusation.

Falana in a virtual interview with channels TV, criticized the CBN over their unlawful involvement in what he termed a “political matter”.

In his words:

“The central bank o Nigeria, should never involve itself in what is purely a political matter”

 

The #Endsars protest which started as a movement by youths all over the country to address the constant abuse of young people in the country by the Special anti-robbery squad, a former division of the Nigerian police force was said to have started on 8, October, 2020, gathered a huge turn out of celebrities and thousands of young people flooding the streets in various locations of Lagos, Port Harcourt and so many other states across the federation.

This had led to the disbandment of the SARS by the presidency, following the large outcry of Nigerians.

however, a sad event that will always be in the hearts of many Nigerians is the Lekki shootings and what is now termed “lekki shooting 20-10-20″ that occurred in 20, October, 2020, on this day, it was reported that men in military uniforms invaded the tollgate and shot openly at armless protesters at the lekki tollgate, this incident which led to the loss of lives, remains unresolved till date.
