Donald Trump to Appeal Felony Conviction, Potentially Delaying Sentence

Former US President Donald Trump is expected to appeal his recent conviction on 34 felony counts, which could delay his sentencing until after the 2024 presidential election. Trump’s legal team has 30 days to file a notice of appeal, triggering a process that could take an undetermined amount of time.

Trump was found guilty of falsifying business records related to hush money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels. He faces up to four years in prison, although a lesser sentence of probation and a fine is also possible. The sentencing hearing is currently scheduled for July 11.

This conviction marks a historic moment, as Trump becomes the first former US president to be found guilty of a felony. He is also facing three other ongoing criminal cases, although none are likely to go to trial before the election.

Trump has denounced the trial as “rigged” and vowed to “fight to the end,” indicating his intention to pursue an appeal. The outcome of the appeal and its potential impact on Trump’s sentencing remain to be seen.
