Dangote Refinery has encountered significant difficulties in securing the necessary quantities of Nigerian crude oil from domestic sources, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and International Oil Companies (IOCs) operating in the country. In light of these challenges, the refinery is calling on the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to enforce the domestic crude supply requirements as mandated by law.
The company has revealed that IOCs are directing them to procure Nigerian crude from international traders, resulting in an additional cost of 3-4 million dollars per barrel. This situation highlights the urgent need for regulatory compliance to ensure the smooth operation of the refinery. By enforcing domestic crude requirements, the NUPRC could play a pivotal role in stabilizing the supply chain for local refiners and supporting the overall growth of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
