The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) COVID-19 test centre in Kano has suspended operations.
This suspension was done due to shortage of test kits.
The Director of the Centre for Infectious Diseases Research, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Prof. Isah Abubakar, confirmed the development to journalists on Wednesday.
He said the shortage was noticed on Tuesday when the centre tested 44 persons.
Abubakar said the reagents were only enough for 40 suspected patients, adding that results of four other suspected cases were invalid due to shortage of reagents.
He told journalists that the NCDC headquarter in Abuja had been notified and the centre would be restocked soon.
Abubakar said: “Right now as I speak to you, the four others that the results were invalid yesterday (Tuesday) have been sent to Abuja to complete the test and get results.”
