Covenant University, characteristic of the dynamism in leadership that ensures success on different fronts has made a new set of appointments into various university offices.
While unveiling the new appointees on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, said the Board of Regents (BOR), the apex decision-making body of Covenant University, had approved the appointment of Professor Francis Idachaba as the foundational Director of the Covenant University Open and Distant Learning (ODL) Programmes.
The two other appointments included Dr Omotayo Osibanjo as Director, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, and Dr Emmanuel Amoo as Sub-Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies.
Professor Adebayo, in his word of exhortation to the appointees, said leadership is about taking responsibility. According to him, God ordained and equipped one for an office. “If you leave an office the way you met it, consider yourself as a failure. If you’ve not surpassed what your predecessor did, you’ve also not done well. Leadership is about adding value,” the Vice-Chancellor explained.
Covenant University, said Professor Adebayo, kept evolving because it was vision-driven. And while emphasizing that the ODL programmes were paramount in the BOR’s mind, he said it was a new directorate with Professor Idachaba as the leader. He urged Professor Idachaba to bring his wealth of experience as former Director of the Academic Planning Unit and Head of the Electrical and Information Engineering (EIE) Department to bear on his new assignment. “You must compete with the best ODL universities in the world,” the Vice-Chancellor added.
Professor Adebayo noted that Dr Osibanjo, who was making a comeback to the Director, Vice-Chancellor’s Office position, was imbued with good administrative skill considering the positions he had previously held. The Vice-Chancellor prayed that God would help Dr Osibanjo bring some innovations that would further help the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.
He said that God had helped the School of Postgraduate Studies attain great heights and as such, the new Sub-Dean, Dr Amoo must add value to the School’s success records. The Vice-Chancellor congratulated all the newly appointed officers, adding that they were occupying their current positions because God had found them faithful in their previous assignments.
Professor Idachaba, who spoke on behalf of the new officers, expressed their appreciation to God and the BOR for the singular honour of being found worthy of the appointments. He promised that they would deliver to the best of their abilities.
Other members of the Covenant Management at the event held in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office were the Registrar, Dr Oluwasegun Omidiora; Director, Financial Services, Pastor Babatunde Onatola; Dean, College of Engineering, Professor David Omole; Dean, College of Science and Technology, Professor Victor Omotosho; Dean, College of Management and Social Sciences, Professor Uwalomwa Uwuigbe; and Dean, College of Leadership and Development Studies, Professor Olujide Adekeye.
