The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has stated that the Nigerian system inadvertently allows fraud to thrive, but emphasized that Nigerians are inherently good people.
Olukoyede made this statement during a courtesy visit by the management staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), led by its MD/CEO, Chief Samuel Ogbuku, to the EFCC’s corporate headquarters in Abuja.
He commended Ogbuku for his determination to bring change to the NDDC and expressed support for his initiatives towards transparency and accountability.
Olukoyede urged public office holders to uphold probity, transparency, and accountability, warning that a day of reckoning would come. He emphasized the need for leaders with high morals to hold positions of trust.
The EFCC boss assured that the commission would continue to fight corruption with determination and courage, using the instrumentality of the anti-corruption fight to build the economy and ensure good governance.
Ogbuku appreciated the EFCC’s support in recovering funds for the NDDC and sought enhanced collaboration and technical support to strengthen the commission’s systems and processes. Olukoyede assured him of EFCC’s readiness to assist and work with the NDDC to achieve its mandate.
