In an interview with African Independent Television (AIT) on Tuesday, former Federal Commissioner for Information and South-South leader, Chief Edwin Clark, advised Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Nyesom Wike, to concentrate on his duties in Abuja and leave Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the people of the state alone.
Clark, who turned 97, accused former Rivers State governor and immediate past Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and his successor, Wike, of masterminding what he called “politics of madness” in Rivers State. He emphasized that godfatherism must end in Nigerian politics and urged Wike to allow Fubara to govern the state without interference.
The elder statesman, who has never met Fubara, stated that he is only fighting against injustice and oppression. He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct elections to fill vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly, citing the constitution’s 90-day deadline.
Clark expressed his desire to be remembered as a foremost Nigerian who believed in equality and unity, and asked those he may have offended during his service to forgive him. He highlighted his contributions to education and national development, including supplying teachers to northern states during the civil war and establishing a private university to promote unity and good citizenship.
