Businessman Mahdi Shehu Apprehended in Kaduna for Alleged Extortion Attempt

In a recent development, Abubakar Malami, SAN, former Minister of Justice, has reported that businessman Mahdi Shehu was apprehended in Kaduna for an alleged attempt to extort $500,000 from his wife, Aisha.

According to Mr. Shehu’s lawyer, M.I. Abubakar, the Nigeria police detained the activist following his demand for legal action against Mr. Malami and other former administration figures.

A statement from Mr. Malami’s legal firm, A.A. Sheriff, revealed that Mr. Shehu was apprehended at a hotel while attempting to extort the substantial sum.

Mr. Sheriff rejected the activist’s accusations, stating that the suspect faces charges related to extortion, criminal intimidation, and attempted deception through the use of GSM numbers and email addresses.

The statement further clarified that the arrest stemmed from a complaint of extortion, criminal intimidation, and attempted fraud against a syndicate, in which Mr. Shehu was allegedly involved.

The ongoing investigation has uncovered evidence linking Mr. Shehu to hacking and financial improprieties affecting Hajiya Aisha Abubakar Malami.
