Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, yesterday commissioned the Buni-Yadi township road and drainage projects.
The governor said this was in line with his administration’s broader objective of transforming the state, making life more meaningful for the people and making democracy work as well as it should. “The roads that we are here to commission in Buni-Yadi today cover a total distance of four kilometres and one hundred meters and are paved with a total of 8.2 kilometres of concrete drainage,” he said. He said the N673.45m road project was funded jointly by the state and Gujba Local Government Council.
It’s one of four township road projects that our administration has executed in the towns of Buni-Yadi, Babbangida, Jajimaji, and Damagum. “But as important as this project is, its lifespan and long-term usefulness depend to a large extent on how the people of Buni-Yadi make use of it. If people convert the drainages into refuse dumps, if people block the roads and do not allow free flow of traffic, they’ll create the conditions for flooding during the rainy season and stifle the benefits of a useful project.”
He urged the people of Buni-Yadi to take full advantage of the services “that the government is providing to them, take ownership of the projects being cited in the community and jealously guard and make the best use of them.”
He also urged them and all the citizens of the state not to relent in cooperating with the security agents in order to ensure lasting peace and security
