Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has made a shocking revelation that former President Muhammadu Buhari never wanted President Bola Tinubu to succeed him as President of Nigeria. In an exclusive interview with Tribune, Lamido disclosed that Buhari had a different candidate in mind to succeed him, and it wasn’t Tinubu or his former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
According to Lamido, Buhari’s preferred candidate was ex-Senate President Ahmed Lawan. However, Buhari lacked the courage to push through his choice, and Tinubu emerged as the winner. Lamido noted that Tinubu’s victory was a result of his own efforts and not due to Buhari’s support.
“Tinubu knows that his victory wasn’t from Buhari, therefore, he owes him nothing,” Lamido said. He recalled that prior to the 2015 presidential election, there were insinuations that Buhari was against Tinubu’s emergence as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Lamido also alleged that some top officials of Buhari’s administration had attempted to stop Nigerians from voting for Tinubu by redesigning the naira and causing artificial fuel scarcity. Tinubu had famously declared “Emi Lokan” (meaning “it’s my turn”) during one of his campaigns, indicating that he was determined to become President despite the obstacles.
