BREAKING: Shiekh Gumi loses Wife, Aminatu [PHOTO]

Hajiya Aminatu Bintu, the widow to late Sheikh Abubakar Gumi has died. She passed on Saturday morning, funeral will be held later today at Sheikh Abubakar Gumi’s house at 4.30 pm.

Sheikh Abubakar Gumi was an outspoken Islamic scholar and Grand Khadi of the Northern Region of Nigeria (1962–1967), a position which made him a central authority in the interpretation of the Sharia legal system in the region. He was a close associate of Ahmadu Bello, the premier of the Northern region in the 1950s and 1960s, and became the Grand Khadi in 1967.

His eldest son, Ahmad Gumi is the popular Islamic cleric who today is advocating for milder approach to bandits’ plight in northern Nigeria. Ahmad Gumi confirmed the news via his known Facebook page.

As a result of insecurities especially in northern Nigeria, Ahmad Gumi said he strives to negotiate with bandits ‘to lower their arms for a safe Nigeria’. He often enters the forest reaching out to their various Bandits camps and hideout, persuading them to desist from kidnapping or killing people for ransom.
