Breaking: Police Service Commission Announces Major Shake-Up, Promotes 122 Senior Officers

 

In a significant move, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the promotion of 122 senior police officers, including the Commissioner of Police in charge of Oyo State Command, Hamzat Adebola Ayinde, to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG). Additionally, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Yahaya Sahabo Abubakar has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG).

The promotions, approved at an extraordinary Management Meeting of the Commission on June 6, 2024, include:

– 10 Commissioners of Police promoted to AIGs
– 15 Deputy Commissioners of Police promoted to substantive Commissioners
– 36 Assistant Commissioners of Police promoted to Deputy Commissioners
– 61 Chief Superintendents of Police elevated to Assistant Commissioners of Police

Commission Chairman Solomon Arase emphasized the need for effective policing and internal security management in the face of emerging crimes and technological advancements. He charged the promoted officers to be committed to their sacred responsibility of securing the nation and pledged the Commission’s readiness to ensure regular and predictable promotions.

The list of promoted officers has been conveyed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for implementation and further necessary action.

This major shake-up in the police hierarchy is expected to bring fresh perspectives and leadership to the force, enhancing its capabilities in tackling the complex security challenges facing the nation.
