Dozens of Nigerians in Minna, the Niger State capital, faced teargas from the police as they protested the increasing hardships under Chief Bola Tinubu’s government.
The demonstration, primarily led by women, disrupted major roads in the city, particularly the Minna-Bida Road at Kpakungu roundabout.
In a video circulating on X on Monday Morning, the protesters expressed their discontent with the escalating cost of food items, with rice reaching N2,000 per mudu and maize priced at N1,000 per measure in local markets.
As the crowd grew, including men joining the protest and halting vehicle movement, tensions escalated.
Police attempts to control the situation led to them firing shots into the air after protesters insisted they leave.
One protester, Ibrahim Gana, emphasized the urgent need for the Federal Government to address the economic difficulties faced by the citizens, describing the current situation as unbearable.
Gana stated, “The Federal Government needs to take action to reduce the hardship being faced by the poor Nigerians. Things are becoming unbearable.”
