Few days after losing in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship election primary in Ondo State, the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, has joined the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), OBSERVERS TIMES learnt.
He will now contest the governorship election under the ZLP, which was formed by former of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.
One of the Deputy Governor’s aides who spoke with WazobiaReporters under the condition of anonymity, confirmed the defection.
The aide said there had not been any meaningful discussion between Ajayi and the PDP candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, since he won the primary election.
On Friday, July 25, 2020, Ajayi reportedly held a meeting with Mimiko in his Ondo residence.
The meeting took place shortly after the winner of the PDP primary election, Eyitayo Jegede, visited Ajayi, as part of his reconciliation moves.
Ajayi had dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) 30 days to PDP’s governorship primary, but came second with 657 votes.
ZLP had elected Rotimi Benjamin, as its candidate for the October 10, 2020 governorship election.
