The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have declared an indefinite nationwide strike starting from Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
NLC president, Joe Ajaero, and TUC president, Festus Osifo, disclosed this after their separate emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.
The labour unions advised Nigerians to stockpile their homes with foodstuffs as the strike would shut down economic activities in the country.
According to the communique read by the two labour leaders, the indefinite nationwide strike was as a result of the alleged insensitivity of President Bola Tinubu’s government to the plights of Nigerians since the removal of fuel subsidy.
The labour leaders also accused President Tinubu’s government of “continuous demonstration of unwillingness and complete lack of initiative” towards addressing the hardships faced by Nigerians as a result of the policy.
