The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the results for the June/July 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination.
Impressively, 60.55% of candidates achieved at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics.
Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the Registrar of NECO, shared this information during a press briefing at the NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday.
A total of 1,376,423 candidates registered for the examination, comprising 706,950 males and 669,473 females.
Of these, 1,367,736 candidates sat for the tests, with 702,112 males and 665,624 females participating.
According to Prof. Wushishi, the results show that 828,284 candidates received five credits and above, explicitly including English and Mathematics, which equates to 60.55%.
Meanwhile, when considering five credits regardless of subjects, the number rises to 1,147,597, representing a remarkable 83.90%.
In terms of examination malpractices, the Registrar noted a significant decline this year compared to 2023.
“We recorded 8,437 candidates involved in various forms of malpractice in 2024, a decrease from 12,030 in 2023, reflecting a 30.1% reduction,” he reported.
However, he revealed that 40 schools engaged in mass cheating across 17 states during this year’s examination.
“These institutions will be summoned for discussions, after which appropriate sanctions will be determined.
One school in Ekiti is facing possible de-recognition due to mass cheating in two core subjects and one science subject,” Wushishi stated.
Additionally, he indicated that 21 supervisors are under review for actions such as poor supervision and negligence across 12 states.
