Confirming the incident to the OBSERVERS TIMES
in her word “ I encountered armed robbers last night o.
On the expressway from Port Harcourt to Asaba (Gbomadi area precisely) .
As I was approaching the robbery spot, I saw vehicles turning around and driving backwards shouting “armed robbers ahead, turn around” .
Instead of fleeing away, I charged my police escort to maintain position and drive to the scene.
There were exchange of gunshots but we over powered them as they scampered into the bushes.
There were many victims lying on the ground, a bus and a couple of cars which unluckily ran into the robbers.
From the look of things, the robbers must have been operating there for a while, long enough for the police to arrive the location for rescue. But we found no police patrol .
Our highways are too dangerous and dark. The government must look into securing travelers especially as many people resort to crime as a means of survival.
