The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has expressed its willingness to support an alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if it will lead to a better Nigeria. This comes after Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flag bearer, held closed-door meetings with PDP chieftains, including Atiku Abubakar, Sule Lamido, and Bukola Saraki.
Abure, in an interview, stated that he is awaiting briefing from Obi on the outcome of the meetings, but emphasized that the party has no fear of an alliance unsettling its camp. He noted that Obi is free to engage with associates and friends across party lines, and if an alliance will lead to a better country, the Labour Party will support it.
Abure clarified that any decision on an alliance would not be his alone to make, but emphasized the party’s commitment to doing what is best for Nigeria. He also downplayed the significance of Obi’s meetings, describing them as mere visits to friends and associates, which may not necessarily have political undertones.
