BREAKING: DG, National Intelligence Agency, NIA, Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, Resigns

The Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, has tendered his resignation to President Bola Tinubu.

As of press time, the reason for his resignation is yet to be known.

Abubakar had taken over the reins of the NIA after his predecessor, Ayo Oke, was suspended in April 2017 by former President Muhammadu Buhari over allegations of fraud.

Oke was later dismissed on October 30, 2017, following a probe into the allegations.

In 2021, Buhari extended Abubakar’s tenure as NIA DG.
