In a stunning revelation, the Dangote Group has categorically denied the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited’s claim of purchasing petrol at N898 per litre. The NNPC had earlier announced this rate, but Dangote Group’s Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, has labeled it “misleading and mischievous”.
According to Chiejina, the products were sold in dollars, not naira, and the current stock of crude was procured in dollars, resulting in significant savings compared to NNPC’s current imports. The Dangote Group has assured Nigerians of the availability of quality petroleum products and an end to fuel scarcity, with petrol expected to be available in every local government area across the country. A formal announcement on pricing is expected from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, starting October 1, 2024. This move is aimed at promoting transparency and stability in the petroleum sector.
