A Kano High Court has issued an order restraining Aminu Ado Bayero from parading himself as the Emir of Kano. The court, presided over by Justice Amina Aliyu, also directed the police to eject him from the Nassarawa royal residence.
This development comes after a federal high court in Kano had earlier stopped the state government from scrapping the emirates created by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and reinstating Sanusi Lamido as emir.
Governor Abba Yusuf had signed into law the repeal of the Kano Emirates Council Law, which led to the reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido as emir. The new law also repealed the 2019 law that created five emirates in the state.
While other deposed emirs complied with the government’s directive to vacate their royal residences, Aminu Ado Bayero refused, citing a court order that annulled his dethronement. This led to protests on Sunday, with supporters of Aminu Bayero calling on the government to obey the court order.
The latest court order brings a new twist to the ongoing emirate crisis in Kano State.
