Gunmen on Sunday night attacked a Military checkpoint close to the entrance of Oton Area of Sapele and two Military personnels were killed in the attack,OBSERVERS TIMES.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, who confirmed the incident to journalists in Warri on Monday said a Soldier and a Policeman were killed.
Crime Channel learnt that the gunmen had stormed the community through the Oton River in Sapele to kidnap some prominent persons in the area but met with the security personnels who tried to repel the bandits. During the shootout gunshots from the invading gunmen killed the security operatives.
According to the PPRO, proper investigations are underway and as the time of filing this report no one has been arrested in connection to the attack.
Onome further disclosed that Military troops from the 19 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Moko, have been deployed to the area.
A source from the community said the incident has caused a lot of tension in the community.
