Less than 24 hours after a former governor of Ekiti State and one-time Deputy National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Segun Oni, made intention to return to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, known, indication has emerged that Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, may also on his way out of the APC, OBSERVERS TIMES learnt.
Adeyeye, who had his electoral victory in the 2019 Ekiti South senatorial poll truncated by the Appeal Court, is said to have started making moves to return to the PDP.
Sources said he was already reaching out to his political allies who are still in the PDP and was closely monitoring the ongoing congresses.
It should be recalled that Adeyeye left the PDP after failing to secure the party’s ticket to contest the 2018 governorship election in Ekiti State.
He decamped to the APC and was handed the Ekiti South senatorial ticket with which he contested against Senator Biodun Olujimi and emerged winner. But his victory was short-lived as the Appeal court nullified his election and awarded victory to Olujimi.
Since then, Adeyeye had been silent politically, more that his loss at the Appeal court further reinforced the general belief that he carries a curse that has made it impossible for him to win an election.
Though he was yet to make his intention public, Adeyeye is said to be of the belief that his loss at the Appeal Court was orchestrated by the powers that be in Ekiti APC to prevent him from seeking the party’s governorship ticket in 2022.
However, inside PDP sources say majority party members may resist his return to the party, considering the manner he left the party for the APC despite all the opportunities he enjoyed in the party.
A party member in Ise-Orun Local Government, who preferred anonymity said “Adeyeye can never change and can be likened to allowing coronavirus into the PDP in Ekiti if he is allowed back into the party.”
