Four-time Africa Footballer of The Year, Samuel Eto’o, believes the Super Eagles are currently at par with the likes of Brazil, Argentina and France in world football, Sports Extra reports.
Eto’o, who is currently in Nigeria for the official launch of the Castle Africa 5s football tournament in Lagos, admitted that only little details separate the three-time African champions from top teams.
“Nigeria are on the same level as Brazil, Argentina, and France. Sometimes in Africa, we don’t know properly value our football,” Eto’o told Sports Extra.
“They (Nigeria) have great talents but they must be focused and discipline to be a powerhouse again.”
The Eagles finished third at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and are ranked 33rd by FIFA for the month of February.
Eto’o also backed new Eagles’ assistant coach, Joseph Yobo, to add value to the national team.
“I’m very happy to see now in Africa that legends are been handed the responsibility to lead their national teams. I’m very happy for Yobo, I pray he succeeds,” he added.
