The House of Representatives joint committee investigating the N15 million bribery allegations against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS) has ordered the NCS to provide CCTV footage of Bobrisky’s prison stay.
During a heated investigative hearing, NCS representatives explained Bobrisky’s transfer from the Medium Correctional Centre to Maximum Correctional Centre in Ikoyi after just 10 days. This raised suspicions among committee members, leading to further questioning about the alleged bribe.
The committee, unsatisfied with the explanations provided, demanded to see the CCTV footage of Bobrisky’s time in prison to ascertain the truth behind the allegations. The investigation was prompted by a leaked audio recording suggesting that Bobrisky paid N15 million to the EFCC to drop money laundering charges against him.
Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, was sentenced to six months in prison for Naira abuse but allegedly did not serve his full sentence. The ongoing investigation has also led to an internal probe by the EFCC and a separate investigation by the Minister of Interior into Bobrisky’s claims of bribing prison officials.
Despite Bobrisky’s absence at the hearing, key witness Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, stood by the claims made in the earlier video recording. He provided the committee with evidence including voice recordings, chats, and bank transactions to support the allegations.
It remains to be seen what the CCTV footage will reveal and how it will impact the ongoing investigation into the bribery allegations surrounding Bobrisky’s time in prison.
