A foremost youth leader of Peoples Democratic Party, Comrade Usman Austin Okai, has described the meeting between Governor Nyesom Wike and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the beginning of greater things for the PDP.
It may be recalled that Chief Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers state, and Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President of Nigeria and candidate of the PDP in 2019 Presidential election, have not enjoyed smooth relationship since the return of the former Vice President to the party in late 2018.
Speaking to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja, Comrade Austin Okai, who is also the national leader of Peoples Democratic Party Youth Frontier, stated that the main opposition party needs a blend of the political dexterity of the Rivers state governor, and the network of the former Vice President to be able to come out triumphant in the 2023 general election.
“It is a great joy to read that our two foremost leaders, Governor Nyesom Wike and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, met in Portharcourt to address and reconcile any existing political differences they have. Governor Wike’s political dexterity is unmatchable, likewise the political network that Atiku controls. A blend of both is straight ticket to victory in 2019 presidential election”, Comrade Okai stated.
“I have strongly held the view that the year 2023 looks bleak for our party except leaders of the party reconcile among themselves and forge a common path for the interest of our great party and Nigeria”, he added further.
Comrade Okai decries sad the state of the country since 2015, maintaining that Nigerians need PDP to come to their rescue.
“As a country, Nigeria has been on retrogressive slope since 2025 when the ruling All Progressive Congress deceptively displaced PDP from government. Nigerians earnestly desire a return of PDP to the centre, but that can only be achieved when leaders bury their individual differences and work collectively”.
Comrade Okai further expressed gratitude to a former senator representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye for brokering the peace and reconciliatory meeting between Governor Wike and Atiku Abubakar, describing him a leader of many “colors”.
“Senator Dino, by facilitating the meeting between Governor Wike and Atiku, has achieved what some of the elected and appointed party officials could not achieve. He has once again shown that he is a leader of many colors. History will forever be kind to him for his contributions to the advancement of PDP and progress of the Nigeria State.”, he concluded
