A chilling wave of targeted assassinations and kidnappings has gripped Southern Kaduna, Nigeria, leaving a trail of death and destruction in its wake. In a heart-stopping encounter, a prominent medical union leader narrowly escaped the clutches of death, sparking widespread outrage and fear.
Caleb Musa Kantiyok Dogo, Chairman of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) Kaduna State branch, had a brush with death on Wednesday when four heavily armed gunmen stormed his home, hell-bent on silencing him forever. But Dogo’s quick thinking and the bravery of his cousins saved his life, foiling the sinister plot.
This daring daylight attack is just the tip of the iceberg. Southern Kaduna has been transformed into a killing field, with Fulani herdsmen wreaking havoc on unsuspecting communities. The District Head of Garu community, Alhaji Babangida Adamu Suleiman, was kidnapped by suspected armed herdsmen, while Pastor Peter Shabanyan was brutally assassinated in his home. Dr. Ishaya James met a similar fate, with eight others kidnapped in Kauru LGA.
The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has condemned the attacks, warning that the Fulani herdsmen’s sinister agenda is to eliminate prominent community members and instill fear in the hearts of the people. “We call on our members to secure their communities, as the government seems incapable of doing so,” said Comrade Luka Binniyat, Chairman of the Middle Belt Forum, Kaduna State Chapter.
As the people of Southern Kaduna live in constant fear of the next attack, one thing is clear: the Fulani herdsmen’s reign of terror must be brought to an end. The government must act now to protect its citizens and prevent further bloodshed.
