Abocho, Dekina local government have an annual cultural festivals that involves the coming of the dead to communicate with the living. They call it Egwu Okodufu and it is particular to those that comes from the Egwu Afia lineage.
Egwu Ekodufu goes on for few days and within these few days, families expecting a member from the spirit world prepare for the welcoming and long for the finding of their person who comes as Egwu afia.
The finding goes on in the night and celebration comes in the day time with rituals from Okula to ere chopa.
After all of the Egwu Okodudu celebration, they go into the Ibegwu day which comes two to three days after the Egwu Okodufu.
The Egwu Afia lineage of Abocho welcome their late family members who returned as Egwu.
Today , the Ibegwu day will hold and this time, all family masquerade comes out for celebration.
I found out that once a man from the Egwu afia lineage is buried in the traditional way and he has children, it is a must to come as Egwu afia else the Ibegwu will strike the children.
